2008 Parade Grand Marshall's Fred and Roberta Condon
Fred and Roberta Condon have been named the Honorary Parade Marshals for the 2008 Poultry Days Parade. The parade will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14 as part of the three day festival to be held June 12 thru 14. Fred Condon graduated from Versailles High School in 1954. During high school, he worked at Miami Valley Golf Course in Dayton, then moved back to Versailles and worked at Poultry Producers in Versailles from 1952-1964. He then started work at Edwin F. Nickol Monuments in 1964 and purchased the business in 1980. He still works there part-time. Fred is a charter member of Versailles Area Jaycees, a past member of Versailles VDA, Versailles Athletic Booster, (served a vice president two years and president two years), a past member of Holy Family Church Council, a member of Versailles Eagles Lodge. He also worked on the Versailles Poultry Days on different committees in the 1960’s and 1970’s. He has been a member of Ohio National Guard, a director of Versailles Area Foundation, and member of Versailles Lions Club for 30 years. He is also a member of Monument Builders of Ohio, and was a Board Member for 15 years and a member of Monument Builders of North America. Roberta (Barga) Condon graduated from Versailles High School. During high school she worked at Beare’s Coffee Shop in Versailles and was secretary at Phelan’s Insurance from 1954 to 1962. She has also worked as a part-time employee at Edwin F. Nickol Monuments from 1970 to 1976, and worked at Peoples National Bank from 1977 to 1980. She was secretary at Edwin F. Nickol Monuments from 1980 to 2000. Fred and Roberta have four children: Randy, Steve, Gary and Jody, along with 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. |
