2009 Parade Grand Marshall's
Bill & Barb Ahrens

William
“Bill” and Barbara Ahrens have been named Honorary Parade Marshals for the 2009
Versailles Poultry Days Parade. The
parade will be held at 11:00 am
on Saturday June 13th as part of the three day festival to be held June 12th
thru the 14th.
Bill
Ahrens began his working career in 1957 at the age of 16 working for Albers Yard
& Plumbing & Heating & Roofing Co.
Bill remained with Albers for two years before being called to active service
with the National Guard. During his
6 months of active duty he was stationed at
Fort Knox, KY and
Fort Bliss, TX.
Bill remained with the National Guard for 6 years.
Upon returning from active duty, Bill continued his career at Stoles
Corp, Rex Stinley Plumbing & Heating in Sidney; Al’s Plumbing & Heating in
Greenville; and Jim Copp Plumbing and Heating in Greenville.
In 1964, Bill started subcontracting work under Bill Ahrens Plumbing &
Heating and went full time in 1965.
Bill “retired” in 2005 and sold the business to his son’s, Bob and Rodney.
Bill
has been actively involved in the community for many years.
Bill was/is a member of the Versailles KofC, Versailles Eagles, Rotary,
JC’s, Versailles Athletic Booster President and Vice-President, and currently
active on the Friends of Hole Field project.
Bill has also sponsored many baseball and softball teams over the years
supporting the youth of the Versailles Community.
Barbara
(Schoenlein) Ahrens graduated from
Marion
Local High
School.
After graduation, Barb worked for Buckeye Company in Coldwater as a seamstress.
She was also a member of the Modern Mothers Club.
Barb currently is a CCD teacher for the 3rd Graders at St.
Denis Church in Versailles.
Barb still remains as an administrative assistant for Bill Ahrens
Plumbing & Heating
Bill
enjoys spending time at Grand Lake St. Mary’s boating and fishing as well as
wild game hunting. Barb enjoys
spending time with her grandchildren and following all their events as well as
working with her fruit trees and gardening
Bill
& Barb have six children: Kevin,
Robert, Lynn, Dan, Rodney, and Jason and 19 grand children with two more on the
way.
