Angel Food Cake Contest and Egg Exhibit   Changes for 2009 in red

 

Registration for eggs and angel food cakes will be in Room B-4 in the high school building from 9:00 to 10:00 Saturday morning.  None will be accepted on Friday. ONLY ONE ENTRY PER CATEGORY FOR BOTH CAKES AND EGGS.  Judging will be at 10:00 am, Saturday. PRIZES WILL BE DISTRIBUTED BETWEEN 6:00- 7:00 IN THE DISPLAY ROOM ON SATURDAY.

 

EGG EXHIBITS ELIGIBILITY:

Open to youth (ages 7-17) of Darke and neighboring counties. Bring your own paper plates. One exhibit per member.

3.  Egg Art              Art project done with hollow eggs to the Poultry Day Theme.  Minimum of 3 eggs.

4. Unusual Eggs   Eggs from assorted unusual breeds of chickens.  Must be able to state breed of the bird.  Plate of 6 eggs.

BAKING CONTEST ELIGIBILITY

Open to youth (ages 7-17) and adult (18 and older) of Darke and neighboring counties. Only angel food cakes using the following recipe are acceptable. No Frosting. Prizes will be award for BOYS, GIRLS, ADULT WOMEN, ADULT MEN, SENIOR CITIZEN WOMEN AND SENIOR CITIZEN MEN DIVISIONS.

Angel Food Cake Recipe

1 Cup sifted cake flour

¼ teaspoon salt

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

 

1 1/2 cups (12) egg whites

 

Sift flour with 3/4 cup sugar 2 times; set aside. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar, salt, and vanilla until stiff enough to form soft peaks but still moist and glossy. Add remaining 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, continuing to beat until egg whites hold stiff peaks. Sift about 1/4 of the flour mixture over egg whites; fold in. Repeat, fold in remaining flour by fourths. Bake in ungreased 10 inch angel food cake pan at 375 for 35-40 minutes or until done. Invert cake in pan; cool. Cake must be wrapped in clear plastic or 3 gallon clear plastic bag on a paper plate. Colored plastic wrap will not be accepted.

 

NEW, TWO CATEGORIES 1. CHOCOLATE Angel Food Cake  2. Flavored Angel Food Cake  Prizes the same as the Angel Food Cake division.   Use your favorite Angel Food Cake Recipe.  Examples are: Lemon, Cherry, Strawberry, etc.   Divisions open to all ages.   Cake must be wrapped in clear plastic or 3 gallon clear plastic bag on a paper plate. Colored plastic wrap will not be accepted.
